We identified a unique opportunity for Field Roast’s Chao Creamery to not only disrupt the staid cheese shelf with a dynamic new visual expression, but to challenge their expected reach and offer: moving from a creamery to a premium lifestyle brand.

The challenge for us was to create a disruptive new strategy and design that would celebrate Field Roast’s artisan heritage while modernizing the brand to connect with new audiences as they expand across North America and into Canada. The new design translates the strategic brand vision into a powerful a equity an upward accent – that is thoughtfully and skillfully referenced in all aspects of the form.

We wanted to design a container for lovers of chao cheese that would help preserve freshness for longer periods of time and would also be perfect for coolers, refrigerators, picnics, camping trips, backyard BBQ and so much more. The resulting design is not only premium and desirable, but also, from a lifestyle perspective, embodies a bold, fresh and inspirational aesthetic.  

Creamy Original Chao Slices are coconut-based and seasoned with chao tofu to provide a rich and creamy cheese.

Filtered water, coconut oil, modified corn and potato starch, potato starch, fermented chao tofu (soybeans, water, salt, sesame oil, calcium sulfate), sea salt, natural flavor, olive extract (antioxidant used as a preservative) and beta carotene.

Tomato Cayenne Chao Slices are made with a hint of tomato and complemented by bell peppers and cayenne, providing a sharp and spicy cheese.
