Produced by OAC Design and hosted by Amber Morino and Kenya Barris at Casa di Pietra in Malibu, #THISIS27 was a magical experience celebrating Peter Saji’ s “27th Birthday” and his many accomplishments. Peter Saji is currently a “co-executive producer of ABC’s Black-ish” (an American sitcom series starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross). According to Saji, from his Bonobos interview, he is “not normal in Hollywood terms. He’s a black writer (rare), on a black show (rarer), which is lauded both by critics and its sizable audience (rarest) on ABC’s hit show ‘Black-ish.'” – John Ortved
#THISIS27 was spearheaded by OAC’s Creative Director, Brittney Brooks with Amber Morino’s vision in mind. For this project, OAC was commissioned with a window of one week to assemble a team of talented individuals and transform a discreet Malibu residence on three acres of land with private beach access into a magical evening for Peter Saji and over two-hundred guests. The goal was to provide guests with a night full of entertainment that the couple enjoy together in their spare time. OAC was responsible for event coordination, experiential design, venue scouting, branding, and production. Additionally, we were challenged with the task of theme development, catering, entertainment, invitee list, booking special guests, transportation and promotional material.
Inspired by one of Saji’s favorite movies, the 2012 film, ‘This is 40’, branding for #THISIS27 was born. We decided to transform the lower level of Casa di Pietra into a ‘red-light’ district through art, culture, and sounds by DJ SoCal for guests to socialize, break-dance and enjoy games, a live performance by LA-based Rapper, RJ (“MrLA”), and some good ol’ fashion adult entertainment. Throughout the evening guests were served savory bites by Chef Ameera and her talented team. In the backyard, guests relaxed on the cove overlooking the private beach with complimentary ‘Rosin’ at the cannabis bar sponsored by Flight Brandsand Dabnation. On the upper deck, it was our goal to shift the setting into a more intimate ‘speakeasy’ atmosphere with casino games and theater, where guests were entertained throughout the evening with a live magic show starring magician and mentalist, the Bow Tie Magician (Henok), and hilarious comedian, Kevin Tate.
